Federal Chancellor Scholz Met with World Leaders on His First Visit Abroad


Earlier this month, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited French President Macron at the Elysée Palace and was received with military honors.


“We held cordial talks on the issues that jointly concern us”, stated Federal Chancellor Scholz, “The main point here is how we can go about strengthening Europe”. Scholz and Macron also discussed security policy issues along with economic and foreign policy.


Scholz and Macron also discussed a wide variety of topics from security, economic, and foreign policy, to France’s presidency of the European Council and Germany’s G7 presidency. 


France will hold the presidency of the European Council for the first half of 2022 and Germany will hold the G7 presidency in 2022.


Federal Chancellor Scholz was optimistic that Franco-German relations would continue to develop after his talk with French President Macron.


Scholz Met with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen


Federal Chancellor Scholz also met with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels to discuss the pandemic, climate change, foreign policy, borders, and more.


Scholz is a strong proponent of borders in the interest of joint security and covid safety.


Scholz also met with the President of the Council of the European Union, Charles Michel as well as NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.
